Typical Day

Community & Team Camp Schedule
Day camp staff work a morning, afternoon, evening or combination schedule.  A typical summer day camp runs for 6-9 hours per day for five days, Monday through Friday.  Most weeks, staff work 2-3 different sessions, one in the morning, one in the afternoon and one in the evening. In addition to the camps, staff coaches are also under contract to conduct instructional clinics for coaches and parents on behalf of Eurotech®. Such clinics are generally 1.5 to 2 hours on the evening preceding camp or at a time designated by the Eurotech® Camp Coordinator during the week. Occasionally, these clinics are held on the Saturday morning after camp. Each Saturday or Sunday, coaches then travel to a new location for the next week of camp. An effort is made to schedule day camps in close proximity; however, this is not always possible. If the camp is providing a vehicle for transportation during the week, the designated Eurotech® Camp Director is responsible for driving and caring for the vehicle. In most cases, Eurotech® staff share rides with host families during the week of camp.

Residential Camp Schedule
Residential program staff work four field sessions daily, typically Sunday through Thursday as well as assisting with classroom sessions, camp meetings or evening activities. Senior staff members and Directors are responsible for leading several group sessions per day. Residential weeks are long and require healthy, fit staff members who are expected to contribute on and off the field to foster the energy of the camp!

Accomodations
Eurotech® Coaching Staff generally stay with host families whose children are attending the camps. On rare occasions, hotel accommodations may be used.  While working at all camp programs, room and board is provided for the entire week.

During the summer camp season U.S. based coaches can chose to commute daily to their camp location or join the rest of the ‘cluster’ of coaches working on the camp, staying with host families in the communities in which they are working. Where possible Eurotech® will assign commuting staff to programs close to their home, however this may not always be possible.

While in the U.S., all staff accommodation is paid for by Eurotech® as part of the International Staff Registration Fee. There are three ways in which Eurotech®  staff members are housed during their time in the U.S.:

Family Housing
Families hosting the programs in communities where our staff is placed house the majority of Eurotech® staff. By doing this, coaches not only get to appreciate the full cultural experience of living and working in the U.S., but they literally become a member of that community for the period of time they are there.

During the summer camp season, staff moves from town to town each week, staying with a different family in each new location. During this time, they may stay with one host family for the duration of the program or move between different families within the town. Host families are expected to provide no more than a bed, meals and use of bathroom and laundry facilities. In addition, they provide transportation to and from fields in the form of ride-sharing or a loaned vehicle. However, such is the hospitable nature of most U.S. families that normally staff are afforded a great deal more than the bare minimum!  In fact, of the hundreds of coaches employed by Eurotech® through the years, the majority of them cite living with host families as the most rewarding aspect of their entire ESC summer work experience!

Hotels
Occasionally, Eurotech® staff may be placed into hotel accommodations when no family housing is available. This is not typical and Eurotech® will cover all room costs when staff is placed into a hotel. In some cases, some staff stay in hotels from time to time on the weekend at their own expense en route to the next work assignment. This allows Eurotech® staff to see other cities in addition to the assigned camp locations.

Prep School & College Campuses
If assigned to a residential camp program, Eurotech®  staff are typically housed in prep school or college campus dormitories, typically 2-4 per room. Staff room on the same floor of the campers to provide proper supervision ratios and all meals are provided buffet style in the campus cafeteria.
