Real Sociedad is a Spanish football club from the Basque city of San Sebastián/Donostia in Guipúzcoa/Gipuzkoa currently playing in La Liga. For many years, Real Sociedad followed the practice of their Basque rivals Athletic Bilbao of signing only Basque players. They abandoned this policy in the early 90s and recruited international stars to mix with Basque players, a policy they continue to use.
