65 teams participated in the 6th Visa Rey Cup in 2008, including teams from Sweden, England, Scotland and USA. Scottish professional powerhouse Glasgow Rangers FC will be participating in this tournament in 2005. Reykjavik is the capital city of Iceland, and one of the cleanest and safest cities in Europe. Within a short drive are stunning waterfalls, geysers and Geothermal wonders, including the famous Blue Lagoon. Soccer is very popular and the standard of play is fantastic, with many Icelandic pro players regularly playing for Europe’s top pro clubs. The Rey Cup ranks as a small Friendship Tournament for those teams looking for“something different” in a very unique country-with a warm welcome guaranteed!
Tournament Format
Groups of 5/6 teams per pool but with a guaranteed minimum of four matches. The winners of each pool will qualify for the finals.
Tournament Facilities
2 stadiums inlcuding the National Stadium and 5 soccer fields, the Sportshall, thermal pool with slides, steam-bath, jacuzzis. Also there are on-site restraurants, a Family Park and a Botanical Garden.
Age Dispensation
Matches, squads and substitutions
· Teams have the opportunity to register an unlimited amount of players, with substitutions in the form of roll on/roll off.
· VISA-REY CUP follows the international practice of classification, which rules that each age group makes a team, i.e. all those
who are born in 1990 play together as U14.
· VISA-REY CUP does however make an exception this year permitting teams to follow the icelandic classification, i.e. 13 and 14
year olds can play together and 15 and 16 together.
· The Tournament Committee deals individually with applications of teams which do not follow the KSI rules. Maximum 3 players
from previous year can play in any match.
· 2 x 25 minutes unless otherwise decided and announced in advance. Half time is 5 minutes.
